Out of Sight, Out of Mind...

When you die - you are forgotten. Regardless of what you think, the saying, “out of sight, out of mind”, holds true. Yes, you may be remembered at times, but you will be forgotten. Worldly pursuits, achievements, and discoveries may be memorialized by naming things after you, or dedicating structures in your name, but it’s only your name, not your person. When you think of the Eiffel tower, do you think of Gustave Eiffel? Who? Or does everyone answer correctly to the question, “Who’s buried in Grant’s tomb?” You see, without eternity in mind, everything we do, will be forgotten, regardless of our contributions on earth. Depressing, isn’t it? The good news is the Good News. For those who believe, we will be remembered in Heaven. God won’t forget us. And the things we do for eternity, will be “for eternity”. The eternal investments we make here will last forever. When Gideon died, all the people forgot His leadership, his victories in battle, his rescue, and his faith and loyalty to God. We as believers have choices of who we follow. We can follow mortal men, who will be forgotten. Or we can follow God Who will never forget us.

33 As soon as Gideon died, the Israelites prostituted themselves by worshiping the images of Baal, making Baal-berith their god. 34 They forgot the Lord their God, who had rescued them from all their enemies surrounding them. 35 Nor did they show any loyalty to the family of Jerub-baal (that is, Gideon), despite all the good he had done for Israel.
