You can tell the difference between a believer and a non-believer by how they react to God’s word. The believer acknowledges his/her accountability to God, by listening intently, and accepting the good and bad of the message. They apply it to themselves first, before pointing the finger at others. The unbelievers receive the message like a foul odor, not wanting anything to do with it. And most importantly, they use it as a defense or offense toward others, never applying it to themselves first.
15 Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. 16 To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?
2 Corinthians 2:15-16
