One sign of a true follower of Jesus is how they view their money. Having money gives us the inclination to say “NO” to God. When the Spirit, God gives us, is given priority in our lives, we use the money we work to get to enhance the lives of others as well as ourselves. Those that don’t view God as important, will squander their money. A great example of this is when I go to the grocery store and see the people putting their hard-earned money into the Lottery machines, hoping to strike it rich. In all my life I’ll never be able to understand how someone can work hard to earn money, then put it into a machine, squandering it in an instant, all for a pipe dream of gaining wealth, only to squander it away as well (if they were to win). If someone doesn’t have a godly view of money with the little they have, gaining more won’t change their attitude. Priorities matter. The most important priorities don’t involve money, even though many think they do. The godly use their resources to enhance their lives, as well as others. Money is just a tool for us, and a test from God to see where our true treasure really lies.
16 The earnings of the godly enhance their lives, but evil people squander their money on sin.
Proverbs 10:16
