Love always gives you a choice. God always gives us a choice, but those choices have consequences. If we choose to follow other gods, God allows us to pursue these pseudo-gods. Gideon’s Father tells the village where He lives, if Baal (the god they worshipped) is real, let him defend himself. If those that reject God allowed themselves to accept the reality of Who God really is, maybe they wouldn’t be so hateful towards those who put their faith in Him. God always gives us a choice, His love for us cannot be expressed in any other way. When someone truly loves you, they will always give you a choice, because that the sign of true love (that only comes God). Letting someone defend their beliefs is a sign from God; it’s His way of giving people the freedom to choose and serve Him, or choose and serve something other than Him. True Love changes everything.
31 But Joash shouted to the mob that confronted him, “Why are you defending Baal? Will you argue his case? Whoever pleads his case will be put to death by morning! If Baal truly is a god, let him defend himself and destroy the one who broke down his altar!” 32 From then on Gideon was called Jerub-baal, which means “Let Baal defend himself,” because he broke down Baal’s altar.
