There are stories in the Bible that just seem odd. The point they make isn’t clear. I’ve always questioned why they were put in there? This one is a strange one. The prophet Elisha is being made fun of by a group of boys. They are calling him names. Elisha has enough of it, so he curses them. Right then, two bears run out and mauled 42 of them. What’s the point? I can only come up with one rational answer, never make fun of a prophet. Always treat them with respect. If you don’t, you need to be on guard, on the lookout for bears. 😉
23 Elisha left Jericho and went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, a group of boys from the town began mocking and making fun of him. “Go away, baldy!” they chanted. “Go away, baldy!” 24 Elisha turned around and looked at them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of them. 25 From there Elisha went to Mount Carmel and finally returned to Samaria.
