This proverb is profound. Helping the poor is considered lending to God. Think about that for a second. If everything belongs to God, then what we possess belongs to Him too. If He gives it to us, there must be a reason, right? When we use our resources, and it’s not always just money, to help someone in need, it’s seen as lending God back what He has given us. And the strange thing about it is, He will repay us for doing it. The key is to always see what God has given us as temporary. It all belongs to Him. Grace is a complex process, but the end result is always to our benefit. It doesn’t always make sense, but we always reap God’s goodness when we receive it with a grateful heart. To think that God grants us possession of what belongs to Him, like taking out a loan, and yet of having to pay Him back, He rewards us even more when we use it to His Glory. It certainly doesn’t follow the patterns of this world; loans are meant to be paid back with interest. Yet God’s interest is with our hearts, and rewards those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. We serve an awesome God.
17 If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord–and He will repay you!
