When someone tells you, “God is a ruthless tyrant; a killjoy”, respond by quoting this passage. See what their response is when they hear God doesn’t want anyone to be destroyed. He wants everyone to repent. Sometimes, the only way that happens is for Him to allow adversity to reign in one’s life. When a person sees how their own selfishness impedes their growth and maturity, as well as hurts others, it kind of changes the perspective of the rebel, doesn’t it? What’s wrong with wanting someone to say “sorry” when they know they are guilty?
8 But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. 9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
