The conundrum of life: obey God, or follow oneself. If you commit to one, you find yourself swaying back and forth from both. God made a promise to the Israelites, to honor those that honor Him. He is a God of His Word. If it’s a guarantee, why do we stray? Why do we forget this? The answer is simple: we are fickle. Once we learn this about ourselves, that we can’t be trusted, it’s easier to surrender to His lordship. Once our pride takes on truth, it’s easier to trust God, Who won’t fail us, than believe in ourselves, knowing we will fail. If God can promise to prosper us (I’m not talking about the prosperity gospel), then our pride isn’t worth protecting, is it? In order for faith to be real, there are two requirements: it has to be placed in something outside of ourselves, and it must be placed in something that doesn’t move. We must stop trying to place our faith in ourselves, it doesn’t even meet the requirements. We must stop pretending that it does. God will supply for our every need, it’s just a matter of believing His word is trustworthy. Is God trustworthy?
28 “The Lord heard the request you made to me. And He said, ‘I have heard what the people said to you, and they are right. 29 Oh, that they would always have hearts like this, that they might fear Me and obey all My commands! If they did, they and their descendants would prosper forever.
Deuteronomy 5:28-29
