When people refuse to believe God, they choose their own fate. And that fate is a life of emptiness. The world promises what God promises, but doesn’t have the power to “deliver the goods”. When people choose to live their lives without God, it guarantees their next life will be without Him as well. How are we, as believers, supposed to respond to this rejection? Well, first off we don’t chase after them trying to get them to “like us”. Second, if they are unwelcoming, then we shake the dust off our feet and move on to share the Good News with others. We can pray for them, but we are not to continue to pursue them for our own selfish reasons. Our job is to point others to God. If they don’t want to listen, we move on seeking out people who will. There’s no sense trying to dress up a pig with pearls, when it’s intention is to slip itself back in the mud the second we turn our backs.
5 And if a town refuses to welcome you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate.”
Luke 9:5
