Not knowing God, and refusing to obey God have consequences. These consequences are ignored in modern times. Because God doesn’t punish immediately (in most cases due to His patience), we tend to think everything is okay. It’s not, and it won’t be. The ultimate destination of unrepentant sinners is Hell, or as described here, a place of eternal destruction, being forever separated from God. It’s not going to be a place of partying with your friends, as some proclaim. I mean, how can people say that if they don’t even know Who God is? It’s going to be the loneliest, most depressed, hurting, angrily frustrated, and intensely suffering day you’ve ever experienced times a trillion. And there will be no relief. God keeps this world working. Every thing in it sustains itself because of His presence. If He were to ever withdraw it, everything would cease to exist. Hell is existing without God. It won’t be anything like you think. And it will be forever. Nothing is worth living in Hell for. And to think it’s our pride that sends us there. One more reason to preach the Good News, it’s the remedy for our sin problem, and it’s a guarantee Hell won’t be part of our future.
7 And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from Heaven. He will come with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from His glorious power. 10 When He comes on that day, He will receive glory from His holy people–praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about Him.
2 Thessalonians 1:7-10
