Reading Numbers chapter 10, I come to learn about the silver trumpets. There were two silver trumpets made to signal the Israelites (while still in the wilderness). They had different signals for different callings. There was only one trumpet to call in the leaders, as to the two trumpets used to call the entire camp in. They had calls for war, for packing up and moving on, as well as for burnt offerings and the like. They were also instructed to sound the trumpets in good times too, during celebrations. These trumpet sounds were to be a reminder to God of His covenant with His people. If we apply this same concept to our lives, then we are to go to God in prayer continually, not just in times of stress and hardship. We are to go to God in good times as well as bad times. Maybe it’s just me, but I find myself going to God in more during difficult times, than in good times. Maybe that’s why I’m not as grateful as I should be. We should go to God during all times, regardless if it’s good or bad. When we go to God in prayer (heart-felt, genuine prayer), we remind Him of His covenant with us. It’s like blasting a trumpet, getting His attention, or at least getting our attention focused back on Him. Today see your prayers like trumpet blasts, signaling your dependence on God. He will remember His covenant with you, and you will be rewarded with His presence. You can’t receive, what you don’t ask for.
1 Now the Lord said to Moses, 2 “Make two trumpets of hammered silver for calling the community to assemble and for signaling the breaking of camp. 3 When both trumpets are blown, everyone must gather before you at the entrance of the Tabernacle. 4 But if only one trumpet is blown, then only the leaders–the heads of the clans of Israel–must present themselves to you.5 “When you sound the signal to move on, the tribes camped on the east side of the Tabernacle must break camp and move forward. 6 When you sound the signal a second time, the tribes camped on the south will follow. You must sound short blasts as the signal for moving on. 7 But when you call the people to an assembly, blow the trumpets with a different signal. 8 Only the priests, Aaron’s descendants, are allowed to blow the trumpets. This is a permanent law for you, to be observed from generation to generation.9 “When you arrive in your own land and go to war against your enemies who attack you, sound the alarm with the trumpets. Then the Lord your God will remember you and rescue you from your enemies. 10 Blow the trumpets in times of gladness, too, sounding them at your annual festivals and at the beginning of each month. And blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and peace offerings. The trumpets will remind the Lord your God of his covenant with you. I am the Lord your God.”
