The design of the Ephod and Chestpiece worn by the High Priest when he enters into the Holy of Holies, reminds me of our government. The design and purpose of this garment was for Aaron, the High Priest, to wear close to his heart. It represents the people of Israel. He was their representative before God. He was always supposed to remember that he was going before God, not only for himself, but also for the people. What a responsibility. Isn’t that exactly how our government was designed to operate. If only each of our representatives in Congress and the Senate took their responsibility as seriously as Aaron, the High Priest did? If they didn’t forget that they were to hold the people they represent close to their heart. We probably wouldn’t be in the mess America has turned into.
29 “In this way, Aaron will carry the names of the tribes of Israel on the sacred chestpiece over his heart when he goes into the Holy Place. This will be a continual reminder that he represents the people when he comes before the Lord. 30 Insert the Urim and Thummim into the sacred chestpiece so they will be carried over Aaron’s heart when he goes into the Lord’s presence. In this way, Aaron will always carry over his heart the objects used to determine the Lord’s will for His people whenever he goes in before the Lord.
