I once watched a video about a high school teacher who was awarded National Teacher of the Year. His name was Guy Dowd. He is a gifted speaker who came from humble means. His stories of students, ranging from middle school years and up, captured and held my attention. Toward the end of the program he recited a speech that I have never forgotten. It’s meaning is so simple, yet so profound. “I’d rather see a sermon than hear one any day. I’d rather you walk with me than merely lead the way. The eye is a more ready pupil (student) than ever was the ear. Good advice is often confusing, but example is always clear”. The Christian life, and the Church need to stop trying to be like the world, and start being like Christ. It needs to be unified, standing firm on Christ, the solid rock. There’s no better example of a witness to Christ than when a man aligns what he preaches with his behavior. It send a message out that what he believes is real, and it’s power can change a human heart. Instead of trying to win souls by blending in, be like Jesus, and stand out. People will always be captivated by a man of his word. It’s the most powerful witness. Actions ALWAYS speak louder than words.
28 “But what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’29 The son answered, ‘No, I won’t go,’ but later he changed his mind and went anyway.30 Then the father told the other son, ‘You go,’ and he said, ‘Yes, sir, I will.’ But he didn’t go.31 “Which of the two obeyed his father?”They replied, “The first.”Then Jesus explained His meaning: “I tell you the truth, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do. 32 For John the Baptist came and showed you the right way to live, but you didn’t believe him, while tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to believe him and repent of your sins.
