What does it mean to have your heart filled with joy? I’m not exactly sure. Maybe it means when God is the center of your life, all the things that tend to dominate our thinking lose their power over us. Maybe all the worries of the world diminish in their ability to paralyze us. Maybe all of the selfish pursuits lose their luster and fall in value. Maybe it’s the security knowing that God has our back. Maybe it’s knowing that being in God’s will is the safest place you can be. Maybe it’s knowing that knowing and pursuing Him is our destiny, which gives us the significance we long to have. And maybe Heaven is a destination we so look forward to that all the struggles in this life seem incomparable to the glory we will see when we stand face to face with Jesus. Maybe the joy that the Bible talks about is the unalterable, guaranteed-to-happen hope we have that can never be taken away. It’s what gets us through the valleys in life and helps us truly cherish the “mountain top” experiences we have. It’s what causes us to rise each morning knowing today is a gift, an opportunity to honor God with our behavior, a chance to point someone to the Savior of the world. Whatever this “Joy” is, I want it. Don’t you?
7 The Lord is my strength and shield.I trust Him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
Psalms 28:7
