God gave this command to the Israelites, “Never forget” what your eyes have seen. Don’t let the memories escape from your mind. Pass them on to your children and grandchildren. Never forget what the Lord has done for you. When you remember what God did in your life, you remember Who you’re accountable to. This keeps your mind aligned with proper boundaries and self-restraint. This keeps you from sinning greatly. It keeps pride from swelling up and choking you with too much of self. Fearing God keeps us on the “right” path. It keeps us useful and equipped to carry out His Will. It gives us purpose. It helps us stay grounded. It gives us a sense of hope, which anchors our soul. It all starts with “never forgetting” Who it is we serve.
9 “But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren. 10 Never forget the day when you stood before the Lord your God at Mount Sinai, where He told me, ‘Summon the people before Me, and I will personally instruct them. Then they will learn to fear Me as long as they live, and they will teach their children to fear Me also.’
