The biggest problem in society today is the lack of accountability. When we behave badly, who are we accountable to? No one. Not too long ago, people feared God. This kept them honest, respectful, and accountable for their behavior. Now that God has been taken out of schools, public arenas, and the like, there’s no one to be accountable to. Even my generation growing up had the fear of “when I get home, I’m gonna get 10x’s worse than here” mentality. It kept us accountable for our behavior. Here is Deuteronomy chapter 17, we read of the punishment for those who ignore the judgements made concerning violations of God’s covenant. Those who are “arrogant enough” to ignore it, should be put to death. Here in America, the respect for God used to be a huge deterrent to crime. The death penalty certainly served its purpose. Unfortunately, the liberal media, and absence of God, has brought about an arrogance that needs to be readdressed.
11 After they have interpreted the law and declared their verdict, the sentence they impose must be fully executed; do not modify it in any way. 12 Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the Lord your God must die. In this way you will purge the evil from Israel. 13 Then everyone else will hear about it and be afraid to act so arrogantly.
Deuteronomy 17:11-13
