Being a Christian guarantees more than eternal life, it guarantees us that we will fail. The only difference between a believer and unbeliever in this regard is how a believer responds when he fails. He realizes his error, repents (turns around 180 degrees), and returns to God, who as a result of his contrition, strengthens them. Here, Jesus tells Peter this very thing.
31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat.32 But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to Me again, strengthen your brothers.”
Luke 22:31-32
