Without God’s guidance, we wander through life blindly, expecting results that won’t deliver on our expectations. What we think will make us happy differs greatly from what God has in store for our good. Without a connection, a relationship; daily communication with Him, what we think is the right path, turns out to be a detour that keeps us from experiencing Gods best for us. It’s a life of delay, disappointment, and wishful thinking. It’s pretending to do and be something we are not, and yet striving to maximize its effectiveness. All the while, missing out on what develops our character, deepens our resolve, and solidifies our purpose. All of which brings significance, peace, and purpose to our daily living. Without God, as Solomon said, “life is meaningless”, or at least “purposeless”. As Shakespeare said, “This life, which had been the tomb of his virtue and of his honour, is but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
9 We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.
