Our Significance....

Our significance comes from God. Even though we may search for it in other places, we will never find the satisfying honor and victory that we find in God. When we think we are “more or better than others”, we set ourselves up for a huge fall. You know what comes when Pride is dictating our lives? A fall, usually off a steep, treacherous cliff. Our significance, our worth, or our purpose comes when we realize that we are creations made by God that serve His purpose not our own. And that purpose is to know Him, to love Him, to follow Him, and by doing this, we are given hope, peace, and the significance we were created to possess. God is meant to be the center of our life. Everything we do should revolve around Him. When we do this, we fulfill our purpose, which brings contentment and satisfaction that can’t be taken away or diminished. I’m not saying it’s a guarantee for a life of smooth sailing, but it is a guarantee to have a rock to stand on to help weather the storms. It’s like having one of those moments where everything falls into place and it’s perfect (the feeling it brings when it happens). You are fulfilled for that occasion and you know it, so the experience is maximized. It’s like when you’re on vacation, and you’ve exhausted your budget. You’re driving home and you have hunger pangs dancing in your stomach. You pull up to the fast food restaurant, order from the value menu, and are given the total amount owed. You don’t have enough to pay for it so you scramble around the car for that extra change. You’re about to tell the worker to cancel the order when you feel that extra bill down in between the seat that you miraculously lost two months ago. It was meant to be, God was settling the score with your stomach, by providing the necessary nutrients it demands. The moment was meant to be and you get to enjoy the cheap but delicious meal. Knowing our purpose does more for us than we realize. And it’s only through God, that we will ever reach our potential. A God-center-focused life is what the Psalmist means when he uses these terms, “hope, rock, salvation, and fortress from which he will not be shaken”. Do you strive for this kind of satisfaction and security in life? Are you seeking it from things, or God Himself?

5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God,for my hope is in Him.6 He alone is my rock and my salvation,my fortress where I will not be shaken.7 My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.8 O my people, trust in Him at all times.Pour out your heart to Him,for God is our refuge.Interlude 9 Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be.If you weigh them on the scales, together they are lighter than a breath of air. 10 Don’t make your living by extortionor put your hope in stealing. And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life. 11 God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times:Power, O God, belongs to You;12 unfailing love, O Lord, is Yours.Surely You repay all peopleaccording to what they have done. Psalms 62:5-12
