The only attitude a Believer should truly have is one of humility. Job had it, and even though he was wrong about the reason for his suffering, he knew his place. Compared to God we are all wicked. Job was full of integrity, and he had an upright heart. He realized that we are all sinners, and his only hope for mercy was to have a mediator; someone Who could bring us (God and man) together. I wonder if he knew Jesus? I wonder if after all of this, he met Jesus? The fact that he knew we couldn’t make ourselves right with God, especially since he was a righteous man (for God said it in the beginning of the book), we need a Savior. He got it right, even in his suffering, he knew the truth. Why don’t we get it? We have the Bible. We have the theology. We have Churches, and people to teach us. Why can’t we get it right? The answer is simple: we don’t want to get it right. Our sinful/selfish nature doesn’t want to give in and submit to God’s authority. We don’t want to give up control and direction in our lives. We want to be in control. We cry out to God when we get ourselves in trouble, but still aren’t willing to die to self (as Jesus calls it). We will never become the people God calls us to be by captaining our own ship. It’s not our ship to begin with. It was given to us, to be used to sail the seas for God’s purposes. Until we get this, we will continue to be lost at sea.
15 Even if I were right, I would have no defense.I could only plead for mercy.
Job 9:15
20 Though I am innocent, my own mouth would pronounce me guilty.Though I am blameless, it would prove me wicked.
Job 9:20
32 “God is not a mortal like me,so I cannot argue with Him or take Him to trial.33 If only there were a mediator between us,someone who could bring us together.34 The mediator could make God stop beating me,and I would no longer live in terror of His punishment.35 Then I could speak to Him without fear, but I cannot do that in my own strength.
Job 9:32-35
