Truth has a way of penetrating the most cynical and hardened heart, if you welcome it in. Truth hurts sometimes, because we allow ourselves to get away from it. Just like a fresh cut, antiseptic used to clean it burns, but its purpose is to clean, to kill germs, preventing infection, and promoting healing. It’s the same way with wise words. Truth sets us free, but can be initially painful. It’s when it hurts, that it starts the process of healing.
11 The words of the wise are like cattle prods–painful but helpful. Their collected sayings are like a nail-studded stick with which a shepherd drives the sheep.
Ecclesiastes 12:11
