We must never forget it’s God’s Spirit that moves; not our strength forcing its way. The Temple was to be rebuilt, and there was opposition everywhere. Zechariah prophesied that Zerubbabel would be one of the leaders to see it finished. He was promised that nothing would stand in its way (completion). Why is this kind of promise necessary? Because in the end God gets the glory. He creates, maintains, and promotes His will for our good and His own glory. Knowing that God gets honored when we do His will, and it also benefits us as well, should be extra motivation to go out and be faithful to His calling. Glorifying God benefits all existence, and it should be the determining factor in all our decision making.
6 Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. 7 Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!’”
