Here’s an example of obedient faith: when Moses is told by God to pick up the snake by the tail and he does it. Everyone knows you never mess with snakes, especially grabbing them by the tail. Yet, Moses does it. Can you imagine the adrenaline rushing through his body? All because he questioned God’s proposal to him about being the one to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Sometimes, when we question God about something He wants us to do, and it’s met with greater faith-testing action, we must realize that faith is a response to what we see as impossible or we don’t want to do, and it must be received by action. The willingness to be obedient with God starts from the first request, otherwise, it might just raise the stakes by asking us out of our comfort zone sooner than we may have been willing. Moses learned to trust God before he left the mountain. God knew his heart, and exactly what it would take to gain his trust. It wasn’t until Moses grabbed the tail of the snake that his willingness to be obedient began to overcome his doubts and lack of confidence in God. Even though he reverencedGod, it wasn’t until he was taken through a temporary test of his own fear, that he learned God is trustworthy. What is your snake’s tail? What is holding you back from jumping right into the journey God has for us? Ask God today to bring you through a snake-tail moment to help get you going, by purifying your confidence in Him.
1 But Moses protested again, “What if they won’t believe me or listen to me? What if they say, ‘The Lord never appeared to you’?”2 Then the Lord asked him, “What is that in your hand?”“A shepherd’s staff,” Moses replied.3 “Throw it down on the ground,” the Lord told him. So Moses threw down the staff, and it turned into a snake! Moses jumped back.4 Then the Lord told him, “Reach out and grab its tail.” So Moses reached out and grabbed it, and it turned back into a shepherd’s staff in his hand.5 “Perform this sign,” the Lord told him. “Then they will believe that the Lord, the God of their ancestors–the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob–really has appeared to you.”
