God never planned for us to abuse our power or flaunt our social status. God hates pride and arrogance, the number one contributor to selfishness, which leads to all the sins committed by man. What the world tells you about “reaching the next level” of self-promotion, Jesus contradicts with the “real way” to live our lives. Instead of striving to be first, serve. Instead of trying to be a leader, serve. Instead of wanting to be served, serve. That’s exactly what Jesus did. And how much better off are we because of it? What the world promotes as satisfying and worthy is the polar opposite of God’s design for us. Believers need to focus on the serving side of our faith, and let God do the promoting.
24 When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant. 25 But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant,27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
