Money.... it gives us the means to say “NO” to God. At least we think it does. Money appeals to our pride, because we associate it with our significance. When we earn it for working hard, we get a sense of accomplishment, a sense of true satisfaction. That feeling quickly turns from what God meant it to do into what He didn’t, pride. Having money makes us start to desire things. Money makes us want to compare. Money makes us believe that it can solve all of our problems. It pulls our gaze of off God. It’s almost like money steps into God’s role in our lives. It satisfies our desires without holding us accountable. It deceives us into to thinking we can do it without God because we can enlist experts in any field to solve any problem if we just pay them enough. The cold hard truth is money can’t save us. It can’t cure cancer. It can’t bring someone back to life. It can’t even turn one gray hair back to its original color, even though it can mimic it with dyes, making it appear to be rejuvenated and fresh. It’s just smoke and mirrors, an illusion. Kinda like in the movie “Meet the Parents”, when Greg goes looking for “Jinksie” the cat. He finds one at the animal shelter that looks identical, but lacks the spot on its tail. He dyes the tip of the tail white, and becomes the hero, until it wears off. Then he’s labeled a traitor. The bottom line to idolatry, whether it’s money or whatever we choose to put in God’s place, it’s just that, trying to replace God with inadequate objects. And these objects were made by God to begin with. When we take on the role of God, disaster happens, and yet we do it anyway. The creature worships the creation, forgetting the Creator. This is a tragic and useless pursuit. God never created us to worship anything other than Himself. It’s when we try to step into His role that the chaos begins. It all stems from man trying to be God. And in the end, it’s only God that saves. Money can’t buy you love, health, or peace, and it certainly cannot replace God. Save yourself some pain and suffering and embed this truth into your soul, if you do, you will have better spiritual sight to understand your role here on earth.
