Take A Lesson From This…

I’ve said this before but I can’t help but to write about it every time an example pops up in scripture that emphasizes this point: God knows us better than we know ourselves. When we try to find ourselves by looking within, what we will come to realize (if we are honest with ourselves) is there’s nothing good there. We will see someone who lies, cheats, steals, thinks awful thoughts about others, and is prideful, which goes against God’s desire for humility. We will find a person who says one thing, yet does the exact opposite. One who cares more for him/herself than others, maybe to a lesser degree than others but it’s still there. You will find someone who thinks more selfishly than he ought to. One that talks big, trying to bring attention into himself rather than exalting Jesus. You won’t find much “good” inside yourself. Jesus knew this when Peter swore he wouldn’t abandon Him in the His greatest time of need. Peter was selfishly thinking, so Jesus let Peter know what would happen; he would deny Him 3 times, before morning came. Take a lesson from this: God knows us better than we know ourselves. It’s only when we look to Him, that we truly come to understand who we are, why we are here, and where we are destined to end up.

27 On the way, Jesus told them, “All of you will desert Me. For the Scriptures say, ‘God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ 28 But after I am raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there.”29 Peter said to Him, “Even if everyone else deserts You, I never will.”30 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter–this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know Me.”31 “No!” Peter declared emphatically. “Even if I have to die with You, I will never deny You!” And all the others vowed the same. Mark 14:27-31
