Selfish living guarantees only one thing: when you die, you will be forgotten. Selfish living is for nothing, no one is remembered. Why waste your time on things that won’t last or won’t bring lasting satisfaction? Why not spend your life on investing in eternal things, things that will last, things that you will get to see again? On this earth, once you are gone, you will be forgotten. This should be motivation to set your perspective on the proper priorities.
33 As soon as Gideon died, the Israelites prostituted themselves by worshiping the images of Baal, making Baal-berith their god. 34 They forgot the Lord their God, who had rescued them from all their enemies surrounding them. 35 Nor did they show any loyalty to the family of Jerub-baal (that is, Gideon), despite all the good he had done for Israel.
Judges 8:33-35
10 Those who are wise must finally die, just like the foolish and senseless, leaving all their wealth behind.11 The grave is their eternal home, where they will stay forever. They may name their estates after themselves,12 but their fame will not last. They will die, just like animals.
Psalms 49:10-12
