Here’s a simple truth: when you are on God’s side you don’t need things to bring you joy. The most important things in life are not things. Having material possessions is a blessing from God, but having them without His presence in your life only guarantees turmoil. Think about it, without the right perspectives, your possessions will possess you. Your thoughts and actions will always be focused on how to keep them, how to maintain them, how to spend your money on fixing them when they break. It will take your focus off of the most important things. It will cause you to place things before people. It will occupy your thought-life on the temporary instead of the eternal. If you allow your affections to be solely on this world, you’ll spend the majority of your time devoted to this world, and miss out on what truly lasts and brings you permanent joy.
16 Better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil.
Proverbs 15:16
