Peter tells us in one of his letters that we always need to be prepared to give the answer for the hope that resides in us. Jesus also tells us that God will give us the words to say when we stand before others demanding answers. Here is Acts chapter 6 we get an example of this being lived out. Stephen, being a man of integrity and of deep faith, spoke boldly to the men accusing him of blasphemy. The Holy Spirit gave him wisdom that no one could oppose. His speech (continued into the next chapter) is one of the highlighted events in all of scripture that shows us this truth. God will always give us the words to say when the necessary moments come. It certainly helps to be grounded in His Word (daily), but if you ask in prayer for God to help you, He will. He will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5-6). He will always provide us with what we need to get through a trial. The major factor is that we stay connected to Him. When we seek out God’s will for our lives, and actually do it, He meets our needs (Matt 6:33). He changes our attitudes. He gives us our significance. Be prepared to give an answer for the hope that resides within you, so when it happens, it’s no real surprise.
10 None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke.
