When you read through the book of Ecclesiastes it easy to get confused. Solomon talks about everything being meaningless, and yet speaks about fearing God and trying to enjoy life. In chapter 7 we read a simple yet profound statement telling us that wisdom and money are both beneficial. However, wisdom is the only one that can save us. Money may bring material possessions, and get you further in life, but only knowing God, Jesus, is the only way to be made right with Him (be saved). That’s the point Solomon is making here. Life is uncertain, God is certain, and money can’t save us. Even in all of He depravity in pursuing the meaning of life, Solomon knew, without God, or as he calls it “under the sun”, life is meaningless. It’s only when we realize it’s life “in the Son” not under the sun, wisdom is found. The kind of wisdom that saves, as Solomon states here.
12 Wisdom and money can get you almost anything, but only wisdom can save your life. 13 Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what He has made crooked? 14 Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God. Remember that nothing is certain in this life.
