The one thing God requires from us is the one thing we have a problem doing. Repentance is admitting our guilt, and making the decision to choose God’s side. It’s a simple concept, yet difficult to do. Our pride, if you truly think about it, is our rebellion against God. It’s like telling Him He is wrong, discrediting His justice and condemning Him just to prove we are right. Human pride is the root of all evil, yet God continues to love us anyway. He loves us enough to provide a way to make us right with Him. His selfless, sacrificial service led Him to the cross where He laid down His life in order to make for us a way back to Him. He wants us to love and honor Him. If admitting our guilt and agreeing with God that He’s right is too much to ask, I think we need to re-evaluate the concept of “too much”? It’s just a matter of pride.
1 Then Job replied to the Lord: 2 “I know that You can do anything, and no one can stop You.3 You asked, ‘Who is this that questions My wisdom with such ignorance?’It is I–and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.4 You said, ‘Listen and I will speak!I have some questions for you,and you must answer them.’5 I had only heard about You before, but now I have seen You with my own eyes.6 I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”
Job 42:1-6
