I’ve never thought of my relationship with God this way, but it makes perfect sense. If He is my Lord, then I have no need for anything else but to serve Him. Nothing will fulfill me or make me “full” as He does. Nothing will satisfy. For those that don’t have Him as a Lord, everything is tempting; everything has this allure that makes you believe by possessing it you will be satisfied. Over time you realize when the satisfaction doesn’t last, you need something else, so you spend your entire life pursuing “bitter food” believing it tastes sweet. The only way we will ever be able to see “spiritually” is to see God as the “First Great Cause”, the Reason for our existence. Then this deception will not cause us to pretend we are fine in our pursuit of significance, eventually training our tastebuds to like bitterness like its honey. If we have God in our lives, truly pursuing Him, even the sweetest of honey (the world’s best offer) will fail in comparison to what God has in store for us. We won’t feel the need to “over eat”. Satisfaction comes from what we take in as important. Do you see God this way?
7 A person who is full refuses honey, but even bitter food tastes sweet to the hungry.
Proverbs 27:7
