Aside from salvation, what the world needs more of is “thicker skin”. I mean, as human beings, we need to learn how to deal with criticism. No one likes it, but as long as we live on this earth, surrounded by sinners, we will always have people telling us things we need to change. So how do you develop “thicker skin”? Trusting God brings wisdom. Wisdom gives us the ability to decipher truth from worthless chatter. Wisdom also breeds confidence, not so much in ourselves, but in the truth. The truth is what sets us free from the effects of criticism. You see “thicker skin”, or as it should be called “spiritual maturity” is the only way we are able to see criticism in the right light. I’m not going to say that I’ve reached full “spiritual maturity”, but I will say that I’m on the path to getting there. The key to criticism is to weigh the good and bad. Take the good, examine it, make the necessary changes, and apply it to your life. The bad, if it’s not true, throw it out. If it is, make the necessary changes, and apply it to your life. It’s rather simple, yet it’s not easy. Ask God today for thicker skin, and thank Him when you realize you’re growing it in His Grace. The answer to the world’s criticism, lies in your ability to decipher truth from lies. The key is your ability to be honest with yourself, and apply the necessary changes. When you do, you’ll witness a transformation in your spiritual growth and your skin will become a little thicker.
18 If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honored.
Proverbs 13:18
