Here’s a truth for all of us to remember: the right attitude in life is more important than achieving great wealth. The more we own, the more it owns us. Look at all the celebrities that the world adores. The strife, the turmoil, and the unhappiness they have. And to think they’ve achieved what we think will make us happy. And yet they struggle to be happy and fulfilled. Why do we let our thoughts go there? Material things (including money) keep our eyes focused on material things, that are here today and gone tomorrow. The things of this world have an expiration date, and thus keep us from thinking about the eternal. The material blinds us to the spiritual things, the things that are eternal. And it’s the spiritual things we don’t see (tangibly), that make up the greatest rewards in this life. Building relationships, sharing memories, laughing together, and sharing sorrow and grief; these are the most important things in this life. Ask God to give you spiritual sight today. Reverence Him above all else, and inner turmoil will lose its grip on you, because you will treasure what’s truly valuable.
16 Better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil.
Proverbs 15:16
