Fame and riches only last a short time. What people strive for and work so hard to achieve lasts only for a moment. Then it’s transferred to someone else. Look at pro athletes or movie stars. They do well for a season, earn a big contract, maybe win a championship or star in a blockbuster movie, then a few short years later are forgotten. Fame is only for one generation. If it lasts longer, it’s because the person died and the generation that idolized him/her, made it trendy to the next generation. What happens to all the money? It’s passed on to someone else to squander, not deserving it or earning it. What we value in this life only matters in this life. Only that which is eternal matters in the life to come. Being wealthy is just how you see it. Monetary wealth leads the mind to compare itself with others, which leads us to believe because we have more, it makes us better. That kind of attitude only leads to a life full of deception, a lot of pretending, and in the end, a life lived in vain. Invest in eternity, that way you’ll be able to experience all the treasures you built here on earth (people), when you get there.
16 So don’t be dismayed when the wicked grow richand their homes become ever more splendid.17 For when they die, they take nothing with them.Their wealth will not follow them into the grave.18 In this life they consider themselves fortunateand are applauded for their success.19 But they will die like all before themand never again see the light of day.20 People who boast of their wealth don’t understand;they will die, just like animals.
Psalms 49:16-20
