Reading through the Song of Songs (Solomon), a lot of it is confusing as to what’s going on. Four different people (groups) are communicating. A lot of sensual talk. And apparently there’s some dreaming going on. The two things that stand out among this confusion are: God designed the intimate physical side of love to be just that, pleasurable and intimate. But it is to be done within a certain parameter (marriage), not twisted, distorted, or turned inside out that the world wants us to believe. And second, you can’t buy love. No amount of riches, or fame, or power can demand love (for true love doesn’t demand its own way). If it were so, what you’re looking at isn’t real love. Among all the fancy rhetoric and sensual talk God has something to say. It’s why we are to read the entire bible, not just what we feel comfortable reading. Give Solomon’s Song a try, just be prepared to blush a little.
Promise me, O women of Jerusalem, not to awaken love until the time is right.
Song of Solomon 8:4
7 Many waters cannot quench love, nor can rivers drown it. If a man tried to buy love with all his wealth, his offer would be utterly scorned.
Song of Solomon 8:7
