God’s word gives life. Following it is where happiness is found. Instead of pursuing money, pursue God’s will. His word gives us reassurance of His promises. It helps us live righteously, abandoning our shameful ways. And it renews our lives through His goodness. When people tell me God’s word is irrelevant, outdated, or even dangerous, I simply respond, “not to me”. The evidence is crystal clear. We either see it or we don’t. If we don’t, it’s because we are spiritually blind, or we simply refuse to see it. Either way, we miss out. God’s word is “alive and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Heb. 4:12). Does that sound irrelevant to you?
33 Teach me Your decrees, O Lord; I will keep them to the end.34 Give me understanding and I will obey Your instructions;I will put them into practice with all my heart.35 Make me walk along the path of Your commands, for that is where my happiness is found.36 Give me an eagerness for Your lawsrather than a love for money!37 Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through Your word.38 Reassure me of Your promise, made to those who fear You.39 Help me abandon my shameful ways;for Your regulations are good.40 I long to obey Your commandments! Renew my life with Your goodness.
