The biggest problem in society today (setting aside the root of our problem, lack of respect for God) is the lack of discipline. It’s everywhere. No discipline in schools. Fewer and fewer states implore the death penalty. The wealthy have lawyers to get them out of messy situations. When you take away consequences from bad behavior, you only encourage more bad behavior. The lack of discipline, has destroyed our educational system, and our sense of justice. Look at the current desires of most liberals. Let’s lift up criminals, treating them as heroes, instead of the violent lawbreakers that they are. Discipline is God ordained. It’s God’s way of helping us deal with the consequences of natural law. Without discipline, we have mass chaos. Watch the news. Do We need any better evidence of this truth? And even more importantly, we need it back in the Church. Discipline is a strong deterrent for bad behavior. It always has been, and always will be.
Do not listen to an accusation against an elder unless it is confirmed by two or three witnesses. 20 Those who sin should be reprimanded in front of the whole church; this will serve as a strong warning to others.
1 Timothy 5:19-20
