Once and For All...

This question always comes to my mind about the Jews and their sacrificial system: why have all the blood sacrifices stopped? They would answer because there is no Temple or Altar to sacrifice on. My question: why not build another one? Their answer: God will not allow us. My question: why not? Their response: it’s not time yet. The simple answer to the first question and the one Jews refuse to accept is found right here in Hebrews Ch 10, the reason the traditional sacrificial system has ended is because Jesus made the once-and-for-all final sacrifice. God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus, once for all time. His blood was for the remission (forgiveness) of all sins. So instead of accepting this wonderful gift of grace, the Jews continue to beat their chest and continue the old form of sacrifice without the shedding of any blood, thinking they are being made right with God. Pride in tradition only pokes a bigger hole in your tiny boat. You’ll eventually be treading water praying for God’s rescue. Praise be to God for His Gracious Gift of Jesus.

2 If they could have provided perfect cleansing, the sacrifices would have stopped, for the worshipers would have been purified once for all time, and their feelings of guilt would have disappeared.3 But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them of their sins year after year. 4 For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Hebrews 10:2-4

Then He said, “Look, I have come to do Your will.” He cancels the first covenant in order to put the second into effect. 10 For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.11 Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. 12 But our High Priest offered Himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then He sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Hebrews 10:9-12

14 For by that one offering He forever made perfect those who are being made holy. Hebrews 10:14

18 And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices. Hebrews 10:18
