I remember having a conversation with an older man (I was in my late twenties at the time), that was a leader in his church. The conversation came to the issue of sin. He told me that he doesn’t sin anymore. I’m sure I directed him to what the Bible says about this, and he got angry and left. I never saw him again. I don’t remember what church he belonged to, but clearly he didn’t read this passage out of 1 John. If anyone claims not to be a sinner, they are in essence calling God a liar, and have no need of rescue (so they think). How foolish.
8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that His word has no place in our hearts.
1 John 1:8-10
