Humility, Where It Comes From...

Humility is a character quality we must all possess. We must strive to have the right attitude before God and man. Yet fame tempts people to look to self, which makes us compare our importance with others. Once done, it’s difficult to go back. Fame is the humility killer among men. When people adore you, it leads to prideful thinking. It makes you think you are more important than others. Very few if any can handle fame. Think about how many famous people are truly humble? I once heard a man say for every 100 people that handle adversity, there’s only one that can handle prosperity. I take it even further when it comes to fame. For every billion people who are truly humble, there may be just one that can handle fame. I might be exaggerating on that too. The reason fame is the humility killer is because without God, true humility doesn’t exist. As it says in the today’s scripture, God cares for the humble, yet distances Himself from the proud. Fame makes us proud, and pride distances us from God. The farther away God is in our lives, the less we think we are accountable to Him. Without that accountability to Him, it’s impossible to be humble (for there’s no reason to be). I’ve always said, “Humble yourself, so others won’t have to humble you”. The only way that is possible is to draw near to God, it’s a healthy side effect of being close to Him.

6 Though the Lord is great, He cares for the humble, but He keeps His distance from the proud. Psalms 138:6

If you truly love someone, you will correct them. You don’t let them continue to sin. Remember (as I’ve said before), Jesus dined with sin...
