I’ve always told myself, “Don’t ever allow yourself to judge the validity of God or Christianity, based on one person’s behavior”. Never allow one person’s actions to form your opinion of God, a Church, or even a family. We are all sinners. Yet I see and hear people’s stories of how one person’s actions, in this or that denomination, form their entire view of that denomination based on one simple act. Sad, but true. I find myself reminding myself of these very words quite often. In this world, it’s so easy to do. It’s impossible for one man to ruin God’s character, even though many believe this to be true. In reality, it’s only an excuse to live without God. It’s a way to try to justify sinful behavior. I’m sure you’ve heard people say, “If that’s how God’s people behave, I want nothing to do with Him”. Pray and ask God for His discerning Spirit, then you will know who belongs to Him and who doesn’t, and it will prevent ever tarnishing His Character.
Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.
3 John 1:11
