This is my favorite verse in all of the Bible. Why? Because it reveals the secret to life. It exposes your desires. It reveals what your priorities are. It reflects, like a mirror, who you really are. If our affections are placed on earthly things, then our efforts are only for the temporary. If they continue we become spiritually blind. When our affections are on eternal things, it keeps us going, motivating us to make the most important things come first. Our efforts aren’t in vain. Jim Eliot said it best, “he is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose”. If Jesus is the center of your focus, What you hold dearest to your heart, you will never be disappointed. Whatever you treasure, you will pursue, temporary or eternal. I want my treasure to be real, rewarding, and eternal. How about you?
21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
Matthew 6:21
