Whatever happened to good-old-fashion courtesy and respect for our neighbor? It seems in today’s society, it’s every man for himself. Back in the day, at least for country folk, people looked out for each other. When cattle got loose, someone put them back in the fenced property. If someone’s child was out and needed something or was in trouble, someone lended a helping hand to get them back home. I remember as a little kid, we used to walk to the community pool during the Summer. One day, I was feeling adventurous, so I stuck out my thumb to hitch a ride. A car stopped, a complete stranger, and gave us 3 a ride to the pool. There’s no way that would happen today. I wouldn’t want my children doing that. I just wish we could go back in time when God was more revered. People would be more responsible and respectful. I guess that’s what Heaven will be like: free rides to the pool, a hitch-hiker paradise.
1 “If you see your neighbor’s ox or sheep or goat wandering away, don’t ignore your responsibility. Take it back to its owner. 2 If its owner does not live nearby or you don’t know who the owner is, take it to your place and keep it until the owner comes looking for it. Then you must return it. 3 Do the same if you find your neighbor’s donkey, clothing, or anything else your neighbor loses. Don’t ignore your responsibility.4 “If you see that your neighbor’s donkey or ox has collapsed on the road, do not look the other way. Go and help your neighbor get it back on its feet!
