Here’s a principle that seems less and less important in America today. It’s a shame that this universally known fact is almost forgotten today. The Welfare system in our country has done more harm than good. It’s taught people to depend on the government and not God for provision. It’s taught people that laziness is rewarded. Yes, there is a place for helping people who “can’t help themselves”, but it shouldn’t provide for those who “can help themselves”. That just enables poor behavior. Families and churches are there to provide for these needy people, not the government. The Bible is clear on providing for the needy, but it also is clear on those that “can”. Those that don’t work, don’t eat.
4 Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper.
Proverbs 13:4
