In a world that recognizes compassion and empathy, but rarely covets it, or puts it into consistent practice, I can’t help but think about what it would say about Jesus’ bold statement made here in Luke chapter 13? If God loves to send people to hell for punishment (as many unbelievers claim), then what does He mean when He says, “How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let Me”?
34 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let Me. 35 And now, look, your house is abandoned. And you will never see Me again until you say, ‘Blessings on the One who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
Luke 13:34-35
