Do you ever wonder why God allows conflict in our lives, things to irritate us? Here in Judges chapter 3 we get several possible answers. To teach us. To give us experience to fight future battles. And finally to test our obedience. Look at your conflict. Is God allowing this to shape you? Is one of these three possible reasons applicable to your situation? Whatever the case, this is not a wasted experience. Whatever the reason, you can be sure of this: your attitude towards it needs to be aligned with the proper perspective, for you will emerge a more experienced and battle tested person.
1 These are the nations that the Lord left in the land to test those Israelites who had not experienced the wars of Canaan. 2 He did this to teach warfare to generations of Israelites who had no experience in battle. 3 These are the nations: the Philistines (those living under the five Philistine rulers), all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living in the mountains of Lebanon from Mount Baal-hermon to Lebo-hamath. 4 These people were left to test the Israelites–to see whether they would obey the commands the Lord had given to their ancestors through Moses.
