“In spite”, you hear it all the time, most of it is negative. Think of spite when it comes to God. Substitute “in spite of” for verse 8’s “even so”, it’ll put things into better perspective. In spite of our sinful nature God still sent Jesus to save us. In spite of my “bad attitude” He continues to bestow Grace on me. In spite of an evil world that rebels against Him, He continues to protect and provide. I could go on and on. We need to realize it’s not about ME, in spite of what I think. We need to get off the “selfish” wagon, and humble ourselves, so God doesn’t have to. Easy to say, hard to do, but very necessary.
6 Like our ancestors, we have sinned. We have done wrong! We have acted wickedly!7 Our ancestors in Egypt were not impressed by the Lord’s miraculous deeds. They soon forgot His many acts of kindness to them. Instead, they rebelled against Him at the Red Sea.8 Even so, He saved them–to defend the honor of His name and to demonstrate His mighty power.
