In today’s time, we as believers need to be careful who we associate with. Bad company corrupts good character. If you constantly hang around people who are bitter and angry at the world, you will eventually adopt their same outlook in life, or at least refrain from speaking up for what is right. Instead of seeing God in everything, you’ll start seeing God absent from everything. And the end result is lack of faith in people (become apathetic). You’ll lose hope, which leads you down a road you don’t want to go. Think diligently about what is right, speak up when the truth is suppressed. Stand for God and His people. This quote sums it up precisely, by Martin Niemöller, a German theologian during World War Two,
“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
33 Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.” 34 Think carefully about what is right, and stop sinning. For to your shame I say that some of you don’t know God at all.
1 Corinthians 15:33-34
