When I read Ezekiel 28, it can be hard to relate to a society being wiped out by God for their behavior. But then I read about their pride; their claim to be a god. How much different is this from our society today? When we have people trying to determine when a life is actually legitimate (24 weeks of in-utero development). We have people trying to separate sex and gender. We have people trying to redefine concepts like marriage. People thinking banning guns cures a sinful heart. People who say all religions are the same. These are just a few of the issues that reveal man’s attempt to be his own god. Just like Tyre, God will only tolerate so much. When man tries to be god, it disrupts society. It’s disrupts the universe. We suffer tremendously trying to figure out the “whys” of life. We carry many burdens because of this desire to be a god, because when no answer comes, we revert to escaping society by temporarily checking out with behaviors detrimental to us and others. No one is qualified to be God, so why do so many people try? Believers know this path will only lead to their demise, so we need to let God be God. He is really good at it too. Letting go of the control of life, and trusting in God (to be in control) frees us up to focus on what matters most, the “doing of life”, instead of the “trying to figure it all out “. Until people understand that pursuing their own godship is self-destructive, things in this country will not get any better. But once they do, united we stand. We can accomplish anything together. Unity is God’s mysterious plan, it starts when we give up ownership of our hearts back to Him, and stop trying to play god. There’s only one God in the universe, and He is the only One we can truly depend on to do what He says He’ll do.
1 Then this message came to me from the Lord: 2 “Son of man, give the prince of Tyre this message from the Sovereign Lord: “In your great pride you claim, ‘I am a god!I sit on a divine throne in the heart of the sea.’But you are only a man and not a god, though you boast that you are a god.3 You regard yourself as wiser than Daniel and think no secret is hidden from you.4 With your wisdom and understanding you have amassed great wealth–gold and silver for your treasuries.5 Yes, your wisdom has made you very rich, and your riches have made you very proud. 6 “Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says:Because you think you are as wise as a god,7 I will now bring against you a foreign army, the terror of the nations. They will draw their swords against your marvelous wisdomand defile your splendor!8 They will bring you down to the pit,and you will die in the heart of the sea, pierced with many wounds.9 Will you then boast, ‘I am a god!’ to those who kill you?To them you will be no god but merely a man!10 You will die like an outcastat the hands of foreigners.I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”
